Whales can often been seen playing in the bay whilst walking the fairways during the months of July until October.

The course measures 5761 metres with a par of 72 and a SAGU rating of 70. Different tees are used and the course provides for a challenging golfing experience all year around. Climatic conditions are excellent for most part of the year.

Arabella Golf Club (Kleinmond)

Voted among the top 5 golf courses in South Africa and the top golf course in the Western Cape by both Golf Digest and the Compleat Golfer Magazines, and home to the Nelson Mandela Invitational. Arabella stretches through rolling fairways, deceptive bunkers and challenging water traps. A truly unique golf course set on the banks of the Bot River lagoon and fringed by indigenous fynbos.

Designed and built in 1999 by celebrated South African golf course architect Peter Matkovich, this course has spectacular views across the Bot River lagoon and across the Kogelberg mountain range. The pristine fairways are kikuyu, while the greens, which frequently receive high praise from professionals in the game, are Dominant Bent.

The golf course has been refined in the past six years with the addition of several bunkers and the revamp of the par-four 6th hole in order to rid it of its original blind tee shot.

Signature Hole: The tough par-3 seventeenth, alongside the largest natural lagoon in South Africa, requires a precise tee shot. Miss the green right and you could be in the lagoon.

Baby sitting at Arabella Hotel and Golf Course

At the Arabella hotel is a team of ladies doing babysitting. They are all equipped in pediatrics first aid training and will accommodate any requirement that you may need.

We have a designated play den that we may mind the children in with an enclosed outdoor garden with a jungle gym for busy bodies. If at all possible to book a sitter about 12 hours in advance so that I may book enough ladies for the sitting otherwise we might not be able to cater for everybody. Should you need to book you are more than welcome to contact Meghan Warren (Childrens Activities officer):

Strand Golf Club

The new Strand Golf Club opened in 1994 and the championship layout proves an exciting challenge for golfers of all abilities.

From the upstairs terrace of the modern clubhouse you can look over the finishing hole and the sparkling water features with the beautiful Hottentots Holland mountains as backdrop.

The prominent features of the course are the abundant water hazards and bunkers, undulating greens and tree-lined fairways. Many of the holes on the back 9 play in semi-links style.

The Club was also awarded by the Complete Golfer as “The Most Improved Course in the Cape for 2007”. An award of which the members are enormously proud.

The Strand Golf Club has been known for its greens over the years which have provided an excellent putting surface. There are several tee boxes (championship, club, senior and ladies) on each hole, which makes for approximately five hundred metre difference between championship tees and club tees over the 18 holes. In 1994, two and a half thousand trees were planted on this course and they are now becoming very much part of play.

Erinvale Golf Estate (Somerset West)

Erinvale Golf Estate is nestled at the foothills of the Helderberg and Hottentot Holland mountains in Somerset West. Erinvale’s breathtaking mountain and sea views are an integral part of this unforgettable golfing experience.

Erinvale played host to the 1996 World Cup of Golf in which thirty two participating nations competed. This is an estate course of two distinctly different nines. The front nine is on the flat, winding between the many houses in this part of the estate, while the back nine climbs up the lower slopes of the magnificent Helderberg mountain, with breathtaking views of the coastline from the top holes.

Designed by Gary Player, Erinvale’s beautifully manicured par 72 championship course boasts some of the country’s most challenging and spectacular holes.

The greens at Erinvale are huge and well-shaped allowing for several different pin placements.  Erinvale is also a real estate development where homes blend well into the landscape.

Signature Hole: Par-four 17th hole, a great finishing hole that swoops downhill. You play from an elevated tee, with tall pines flanking one side of the fairway, and an out-of-bounds fence the other side.

Signature Hole: The sixth hole is probably one of the toughest holes in the Cape. It has out-of-bounds on the right and trees to the left of this narrow fairway, demanding accuracy off the tee usually into the prevailing wind. The green slopes uphill from front to back with a water hazard looming close by on the right.

Stellenbosch Golf Course

This championship course which has hosted, among other tournaments, the South African Masters and South African Open, will test your golfing skills.

Stellenbosch lies in the centre of the fertile and very scenic wine growing area of the Cape, just under one hours drive from Pringle Bay.

The course is - compared to those in Cape Town and on the Cape Peninsula - well protected from the wind. The relatively narrow fairways are lined with trees. Hole 8 (par 5) requires for instance an absolutely straight tee shot in order for the ball not to land in vines or bushes.

Signature Hole: The uphill par-five 14th, with it's green hidden among the trees around the corner of a dogleg, is a challenging hole that calls for accurate ball placement.

  • Par: 72 (SAGA Rating Club – 71)

De Zalze Golf Course (Stellenbosch)

De Zalze Golf Course, situated within the De Zalze Winelands residential Golf Estate, was designed by Peter Matkovich who has made the most of the stunning setting and created a course that places a premium on accuracy.

The course has an excellent mix of parkland holes with its main defences coming from the water features on several of the holes as well as the Oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds its way through the golf estate and comes into play at various intervals.

Since the opening in 2000, the club was quick to reap rewards. De Zalze was selected to host the 2006 World Amateur Team Championships, moved from 44th to 24th in the latest Golf Digest Top 100 Courses, was recently placed 13th in the Top 30 Best Conditioned courses and De Zalze also received a service-orientated “Five-Star Golf Experience” Award, managed by Compleat Golfer, joining only 14 other courses out of over 450 courses in South Africa to achieve this honour.

De Zalze is also the first golf course in the world to be recognised for adherence to Fair Trade principles and criteria and has been Fair Trade certified.
