To reach Pringle Bay from Cape Town you will drive along one of the world’s most spectacular marine drive. The scenic Clarence Drive (R44) offers magnificent views across False Bay and follows the natural curve of the rocky sea cliffs on the coast. During June through November it offers great opportunities to sight the Southern Right Whales from one of the many scenic places to stop.

Pringle Bay's Beautiful Beach

Pringle Bay’s main swimming beach is approximately 2 kilometers long and only 100m - less than 3 minutes walk from Dreams. The beautiful white sandy beach is surrounded by sand dunes on the one side and the ocean on the other. It is set against a backdrop of mountains covered by our unique and beautiful fynbos.

The water temperature in the sea is usually cool but in the river mouth of Buffel’s River the water keeps a much more pleasant temperature. The shallow water here is the ideal place for younger and older children to swim, play and splash. The rive mouth is only a short walk away from Dreams.

Surfers and body borders come to the bay when conditions suit. Snorkeling is possible around the many rock pools and crevices at the far sides of the beach, as is fishing. Towards the north one can a clear day see the Cape Peninsular on the far side of False Bay. 

Pringle Bay Town

The indigenous fynbos is everywhere to enjoy: in the gardens, along the roads, on the sand dunes, on the mountains and in the nature reserves where several hiking trails are available.

Most of Pringle Bay’s roads are gravel roads which add to the relaxed holiday feel. There are no street lights to cause light pollution during night so you can fully enjoy the beauty of the African star sky.  

Even though Pringle Bay is a small cozy village it hosts a variety of places to savour food: restaurants, coffee shops and deli’s. There are also some gift shops, a local biscuit factory,  pub, internet café, a laundromat and even a "theatre". There are 3 grocery shops with basic stock where you during weekends can buy freshly baked breads and treats.

From Pringle Bay you can easily reach the hustle and bustle of city life as it is situated less than one hours drive  (67 km) from Cape Town International Airport, shopping malls (the large Somerset Mall about half an hours drive) and vine farms.

Pringle Bay History

Pringle Bay was named after Rear Admiral Thomas Pringle and it was originally meant to be a port for shipping farm produce across False Bay to Simon’s Town. During the 18^th century the area, especially the Drostersgat cave was a hide away haven for many army deserters, prisoners and runaway slaves. During the Second World War a radar station was built. The Italian prisoners-of-war who were used to build the Clarence Drive were held prisoners in Pringle Bay.
